The Midwest Beat are a psych tinged garage-pop band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With two LPs and numerous singles and cassettes the band has positioned itself at the forefront of an already thriving scene. This tape contains demos of old tunes, boombox recordings of current favorites and cuts from a few recording sessions the band did with Bobby Hussy. This tape is the second tape in the series of "Wisconsin Live" tapes Kind Turkey is doing. They feature unreleased demos and studio recordings on the A-Side, and live cuts from shows in Wisconsin on the B-Side. Limited to 100 copies. They will go fast!

You may recognize frontman MAX ELLIOTT’s (ex-ZOLA JESUS, ex-ABSINTHE MINDS) unmistakable howl form his solo work on Sacred Bones. Blasting right next to Max’s sonic wail stands the searing psych punk guitar leads of DEAD LUKE who you may know from his solo work as well as work with DEAD HOOKERS, ZOLA JESUS, and BONE PATROL U.S. Four slamming tracks, recorded and mixed by Bobby Hussy. The download from Kind Turkey includes the originally planned Dead Luke 7" which got nixed when we planned The Lonesome Savages 7" (2 Dead Luke cuts + The Lonesome Savages EP).

This tape features 8 songs and is limited to 100 hand numbered copies (First 13 are the "Silver" Edition, rest are black). The tape is pro-duplicated with imprinted cassettes. The art is full color and double-sided. Download included with purchase from the label! It will serve as a primer for the upcoming 4 track EP 7" by The Pharmacy coming on Kind Turkey Records in November. Fuzzy Cloaks embarked on a West Coast Tour to support the release of the tape during September of 2011.

"The song ["Mess Around"] — lean, serrated and a little dangerous, with an infectious yeah-yeah-yeah refrain — is the title track (and opening number) from a new five-song 7-inch EP, due Feb. 22 on Kind Turkey. Truth be told, all five songs are killer garage-rock rave-ups, full of scuzzy guitar, cacophonous drums and snotty lyrics about memorable ex-girlfriends, mom jokes and scoring with that fetching older woman from around the way."

"While the record starts out strongly, it’s the B-side that really defines the record. Following the first three songs, which mix garage singalongs with dirty lyricism and a touch of swagger, the singer ups the ante by adding more emotion to his delivery, effectively combining the arrogant swagger with a relatable good guy, all layered into the hooky bass and the peppy guitar and drum. While the r’n’r sounds dirty and up-to-no-good, it simultaneously reflects real emotional consternation and reflection. By the time of the doo-wop fused “Sounds Fine to Me,” it’s hard not to sing along to his suffering, even if the lyrical coping comes in the form of a Mario 3 reference." - 7.5/10
